Joyce Hlungwani is a Lecturer at the Department of Social Work and Community Development. She teaches in both the social work and community development programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels. She holds a PhD in Social Work from the University of Johannesburg. Her research interests lie in the areas of Youth transitions, women care-leavers and resilience. She supervises post-graduate students who research in the mentioned research areas. She serves as postgraduate external examiner for other universities and has peer-reviewed for local and international Journals. She is a member of the steering committee for the International Research Network on Transitions to Adulthood from Care (INTRAC) and is a member of the African Network of Care-leaving Researchers (ANCR). Joyce practiced as a Social Worker at the Department of Social Development and SANCA before joining UJ in 2019.
