Overview Phyllis Dannhauser has been in the Film and Television industry for close on 30 years, and has been involved in lecturing at various academic institutions since 1990. She bridges the divide between the academic and applied areas of Film and Television work and is convinced that theory informs practice, and that practice is impossible without solid theoretical underpinnings. She has organized and co-directed several film festivals and community outreach initiatives, most notably the FYTA Film Festival in 2008 at UJ, and the first Free State Independent Film Festival and community workshops in Lindley, Free State, in 2007. Specialisations Phyllis Dannhauser teaches the Theory and Practice of Audiovisual Communication. Her special areas of interest are issues of visual representation, identity and hybridity, represention of memory in documentary and fiction, and community storytelling. She is also a film and video editor, scriptwriter, director and producer. In this capacity, she regularly writes, produces and directs independent productions, mainly for television. She also directed some episodes of the same television docudrama, and produced and edited a feature film, Henley-on-Klip, which was directed by Marguelette Louw, also at UJ.
