Kathleen Fonseca is the Head of Department and a senior lecturer in the Department of Childhood Education at the University of Johannesburg. Her research interest is in mathematics education with a specific focus on student teachers’ mathematical knowledge development and currently children’s mathematics cognition and learning. She is currently researching using functional near infrared spectroscopy (FNIRS) to measure brain activation during the solving of mathematics problems.
