Dr. Emmanuel Rowlands is a multidisciplinary academic whose work traverses the field of gender, violence, peace and intercultural understanding. He holds a PhD in sociology from the University of Johannesburg and his thinking and work focuses on how behavior, identity, and power dynamics relates to, influences and sustain domestic (and intra/inter state) forms of conflicts/violence/war. A leading contributor to critical men/masculinities studies, he is the author of the ground breaking monograph Male Powerlessness : Men and Intimate Partner Violence. Dr Rowlands’ current research agenda centres on documenting lived experiences of human right abuses and mass atrocities, and developing transformative evidence-based interventions to mitigate and remediate the enduring impact of war. He is equally committed in stimulating discourse on transitional justice, healing, and interculturalism, aiming for accountability, reconciliation and societal cohesion in post-conflict African societies. His methodological strength includes the use of qualitative and quantitative methods with skillful application of theory. A dedicated mentor guided by the belief that - "you develop by developing others"
