Mr. Mashabela is an emerging academic and researcher in biochemistry, with a research focus on plant-microbe interactions and the biochemical mechanisms underlying these interactions. His work is particularly centred on identifying microbial biochemical markers that influence plant growth, development, and priming for defence against biotic and abiotic stressors. His research aims to discover and promote innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture, enhancing crop productivity, yield, and resistance. To achieve these objectives, Mr. Mashabela utilizes advanced, 4IR-inspired techniques and technologies, including computational metabolomics and transcriptomics, aligning his efforts with the urgent need to advance several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
