Dr Welcome is a taxonomist and ethnobotanist, with her main research interests being in the edible plants of southern Africa (her PhD topic) as well as the Malvaceae plant family. Her future research will combine both of these interests to revise problematic food plant genera as well as in determining their plant use value. She also has an interest in sharing the value of herbarium collections and in developing open access educational resources that inspire others to learn more about plants.
