Dr Welcome is a taxonomist and ethnobotanist, with her main research interests being in the edible plants of southern Africa (her PhD topic) as well as the Malvaceae plant family. Her future research will combine both of these interests to revise problematic food plant genera as well as in determining their plant use value.
